Mission Statement: "We share the love of Christ and His healing presence
through prayer, compassionate touch, and health education."
Healing and Health is a loving, hands-on ministry, and you are
encouraged to participate with us. We are passionate about what we do, and
we invite you to learn with us.
Healing Ministers are assigned and available at each regular service.
Provide one-on-one discussions with congregation members.
Phone congregants or send cards of encouragement as needed.
Prayer Shawls: Prayer shawls are been made by loving hands and distributed
to individuals requiring a special measure of comfort. These are available
for use by anyone in need.
Communion Visitation Team: A communion visitation team is in touch with folks
who have difficulty getting to church.
Relevant articles, book recommendations, and reviews are written for the
Bread and Wine newsletter.
Books and articles with emphasis on healing and wholeness are circulated
within and outside the ministry team.
Directed, focused prayer (where team members pray as a group for the person
for whom prayer has been requested) is provided as requested.
Parish Nurse Activities:
Blood Pressure screening is offered one Sunday each month.
Health and wellness education articles are written monthly for the Bread
and Wine newsletter.
Five Wishes (end-of-life planning) brochures and forms are offered and available.
Dates for collection of expired/unwanted medications by the Harford County
Sheriff's Office are advertised.
Grief Support: Use of the Stephen Ministries' grief program, "Journeying
Through Grief," continues for member and non-member use.
Future Plans and Meetings:
Incorporate healing ministry opportunities in all services, including special
Cyclical meetings and educational programs in which healing topics can be
shared and mutual support can be offered are being offered.
A quarterly or bi-monthly meeting for support for healing ministry team members
The healing ministry could take two tracks in the future: spiritual and energy.
Coordination with other faith initiatives is anticipated.
ELCA Synod-wide Healing & Health Interest Group:
Several members of Holy Communion Lutheran Church have been involved in an
ELCA-wide interest group for healing, health and wholeness. The group has
been meeting annually.
